Chris Bugaji, Mike Marotta, and Karen Janowski, 3 of the 4 authors of Inclusive Learning 365, join Hollye and Shannon in our 1st episode of the season.
We discuss inclusion from many angles, beginning with... what IS inclusion?? They gave us a brilliant answer: Inclusion is learning that does NOT exclude any student!
We talk about their book and it's function in classrooms: giving teachers quick and meaningful ways to build access and engagement into every lesson. Our discussion led us into some hot topics--standardized testing was one that popped up. We all agree that in the US, we OVER TEST!
What are YOUR thoughts?
Educators: what could you do with that time if it was given back to you?
What if you didn't have to focus on "teaching to tests?" Could you focus in on skills like problem solving, critical thinking, and collaborative practices?
We explored AI (artificial intelligence) tools, specifically CHAT GPT. These resources are a reality and trying to stop students from accessing and using them is a great way for educators to spin in circles!
What are some of the ways educators can turn the tables on AI in the classroom?
Shifting our expectations and goals: moving AWAY from teaching grammar and spelling, and focusing in on teaching students how to vet information and sources. Building the skills in students for the when and how to effectively use these tools. This is NEXT Generation education happening in real time!
Listen to this episode and TALK TO US:
What are your thoughts about standardized testing?
Student engagement?
The use of AI?
What standards should we be moving AWAY from and what standards should we creating and moving TOWARDS?
We want your thoughts, ideas, and input!
